COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this course is to weave a mosaic of the gay and lesbian experience as it has been portrayed in theatre and performance. The course utilizes a seminar format to intermingle gay and lesbian/queer theory, history, and text analysis.
OBJECTIVE
Students will learn the theoretical context, and historical background of lesbian and gay theatre as well as study a variety of dramatic texts. Students must be prepared to discuss the readings in class and respond to them in written form both in examinations and research papers. Graduate students will also be responsible for identifying major themes in the literature and responding to them in an additional paper.
