COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Art of Acting is a survey course introducing the student to the developmental process in building a character for the stage. The course includes units in improvisation, personalization (through monologue work) and characterization (through scene work). The student will also read a selection of contemporary plays and learn to critique acting performances.
GOALS
- To help the student gain confidence and poise in
performing by providing
the student with many opportunities to perform with her/his classmates. - To introduce the student to the problems of acting by having her/him experiencing them and observe others experiencing them.
- To teach the student the basic method for dealing with the problems of acting by studying the principles presented in the textbook and applying them.
- To help the student learn to evaluate acting effectively by participating in the evaluation of her/his classmates' acting and that of others.
