COURSE DESCRIPTION
Script Analysis will outline for the student the principals, techniques, and theories of script analysis for theatrical production. The student will be asked to read, view, and discuss a number of scripts and theatrical presentations as would a director, actor, playwright, and designer.
OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this course is to gain skills (methodologies) in interpreting scripts for production. Our work involves the following points:
- how stories are constructed and how they develop
- how they serve as a window and mirror for social and gender issues
- how they create and use images which influence us
- how viewpoints focus the story
- how the expressions relate to history and culture
- how traditions and regionality influence the text how plays use symbols and allusions
